Purpose: To educate the Otolaryngologists of tomorrow in the Osteopathic tradition.

All candidates entering the residency program shall complete one of two pathways as prescribed in the AOCOO-HNS Basic Training Requirements.

1. Six year program:

  • Twelve months of Osteopathic Rotating Traditional Internship
  • Twelve months of Osteopathic General Surgery Residency

c. Four years of Osteopathic Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency

2. Five year program: (ENT Track Program)

  • Twelve months of Specialty Track Internship
  • Four years of Osteopathic Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residency

The General Surgery portion of the above may be either provided at this institution, or certified by the American College of Osteopathic Surgery at another institution.

The Otolaryngology portion of the program is a comprehensive, well organized curriculum allowing the resident case participation and development of surgical skills to be incorporated in the Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery curriculum. This is conducted in a variety of educational settings, including participating hospitals, clinics, classroom, surgical suites, at bedside and in laboratories.

  • One month Pediatrics
  • Two months of Internal Medicine
  • One month of Family Practice
  • One month of Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • One month of Surgical Subspecialties
  • Six months of General Surgery

PGY 2

  • Initial Four months Metro. In-House ENT/OR
  • One month SICU Spectrum Health Butterworth
  • One month Anesthesiology
  • Four months Metro. In-House ENT
  • One month Laryngology
  • One month Allergy/Immunology

PGY 3

  • Two months Plastic Surgery GRAMERC
  • Two months Pediatrics Children’s Hospital Cincinnati
  • Two months Head and Neck Cancer HANSA
  • Five months Metro. In-House ENT

PGY 4

  • One month Otology Michigan Ear Institute
  • Two months Plastic Surgery
  • Two months Head and Neck Cancer HANSA
  • Seven months Metro. In-House ENT

PGY-5

  • One month Allergy/Immunology
  • Two months Electives
  • Nine months Metro. In-House ENT

Required Courses:

    • Otolaryngology basic Science Course during PGY-2 at Indiana University in Indianapolis
    • Temporal Bone Course during PGY – 2 or 3 approved by the Program Director
    • AO/ASIF Plating Course during PGY – 2, 3 or 4 approved by the Program Director
    • Basic Powered and Image Guided sinus surgery course approved by the Program Director
